Yoga is a tool for liberation from physical and mental afflictions. It is an ancient tool that can be yours to support you through your entire lifespan.
B.K.S Iyengar pioneered the therapeutic application of yogaTo this day, people from around the world attend the medical classes in Pune, India to find relief from their condition. All around the US, Iyengar Institutes and teachers have specialized programs for those with special needs serving practitioners with problems in their backs, knees, shoulders, necks for example as well as anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, recovery from cancer or heart attacks, rehabilitation from accidents or treatment of severe scoliosis just to name a few.
I have been fortunate to have studied under some of these senior teachers and as a member of the Association of Iyengar teacher in the US and Mexico, I have access to innumerable resources to help you here in the heart of Mexico.
“Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured.”
In this day and age of popular yoga, most might wrongly assume that yoga is only for those in the magazines, fit and flexible when it’s exactly the opposite that brought popularity to yoga in the early days of BKS Iyengar. He helped people live without pain and begin their path of yoga.
I have worked wth people here in San Miguel with back issues, plantar fasciitis, shoulder injuries to name a few as well as anxiety and stress reduction. In my own practice, I utilize the knowledge handed down to me to support my own back injuries, avoid knee surgery, tame the symptoms of peri-menopause and help me emotionally through distressing events in my life. I know how powerful and effective yoga can be. Yoga can even help avoid those injuries, hurts and pains that you don’t know are in your future. For instance, a good practice can support can support an easeful transition to mid life and onto the later stage of life.
“The pains which are yet to come can be and are to be avoided.” Yoga Sutras II.16
